Prof. Joost Herman from the University of Groningen visited Fudan Graduate School

June 5, Prof. Chen Yugang, Deputy Dean of the Graduate School, met with Prof. Joost Herman, Director of Globalization Studies Groningen (GSG), from the University of Groningen.

 

Deputy Dean Chen Yugang introduced the international programs at the graduate school, particularly the CSC program, and the newly-established Fully English-instructed Ph.D. Program. Director Joost Herman made a detailed introduction to the cooperative research areas and exchange programs at GSG, particularly its cooperative programs with Erasmus Mundus Program in relevant with globalization issues. Director Joost Herman also expressed that GSG will establish East Asia Studies Center and enhance its academic cooperation and exchange with Chinese institutions of higher learning.

 

Dr. Ding Chun, Director of Center for Europeans Studies at Fudan University and Jean Monnet Chair Professor, introduced the ongoing research programs concerning European issues, and had an in-depth exchange of views with Director Joost Herman on such issues as China Social Security Systems and Reform, and economic and cultural development in the Netherlands.

 

Both sides explored initially the possibilities of cooperation at such levels as post-graduate exchange programs and summer school programs.

 

An Introduction to the University of Groningen in the Netherlands

 

The University of Groningen was established in 1614. It is one of the oldest universities, and is one of the top research universities in Europe, boasts high international reputation, and maintains close and wide-ranging cooperative relationship with other world-renowned universities. GSG is an inter-faculty and interdisciplinary institute, mainly focusing on issues relating to globalization, development and humanitarianism.

In March, 2012, Fudan University and the University of Groningen signed The Cooperation Agreement for a Double Degree Master (DDM) in Economics between the School of Economics, Fudan University, and the Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Groningen, and launched the Fully English-taught Double Master’s Degree Program in Economics.
